  • Teachers' strikes
  • Doubtless you will all know about the teachers' strikes that are happening at the moment. I am not a member of their union so I am not directly involved, but I know some who are.

I was reading a debate about it and it seems that most people were on the teachers' side, which came as a surprise to me! The myth about teachers getting long holidays - even though we do in terms of weeks, a lot of them are used up with marking and coursework, and the evenings during term-time are as well - is only partly true.

So I say good for them!
  • First post!
  • Hi all,

I will be using this blog to talk about my experiences of being a teacher - and, I'm afraid, to rant a bit about the state of the teaching system at the moment! Here's what's on my mind right now:

Has anybody been reading up on the initiatives at the moment? They're rather ridiculous. In the school I work at, we have had to fit an electronic whiteboard in all of the classrooms. In my experience, although they can sometimes be useful, for the most part they are cumbersome and take forever to prepare for. I do think that the traditional methods of teaching are being wrongfully undermined by expensive technology; I'd rather the money be spent on important things such as books and supplies.
